PORT of Newcastle has released a digital composition showing how a box port in the Hunter might look and operate.
A website containing the footage, as well as arguments supporting a box port in the region, recently went live.
The site talks about the long term advantages of such a project, as well as helping the region overcome the more immediate impacts of COVID-19.
According to Port of Newcastle, it is estimated a box port could contribute $2.5bn in economic activity and more than 15,000 direct and indirect jobs across Australia, injecting $1.3bn into the Lower Hunter alone.
The concept has both supporters and detractors. The policy of the New South Wales government remains for the next container terminal in the state to be in the Illawarra.
