The Western Australian department of Fire and Emergency Services on Tuesday morning contacted Auriga Marine to request that a landing craft take essential supplies to the region by sea.

The next afternoon the Auriga marine landing craft Trader Express departed Darwin for Wyndham with essential supplies such as food, water and medical supplies.

The East Kimberley region has been cut off by flooding as the main land routes into the region, the Great Northern Highway at Fitzroy Crossing and Victoria Highway, are closed due to extensive flooding.

Auriga Group CEO Trent Lonsdale said, “We understand how difficult this situation is for those affected in the East Kimberly and we are doing all we can to help”.

The Trader Express arrived in Wyndham early Friday morning, where it unloaded its cargo before returning to Darwin for another load over the weekend.

“We were so happy that we could help out in this emergency situation,” said Captain Nicholas March, who was master for the Trader Express on the voyage.

“It was an honour for us at Auriga Marine to be able to provide assistance during this difficult time.”
