Port of Melbourne strategy welcomed

THE Port of Melbourne Port Delivery Strategy 2050 has been welcomed by a prominent industry group.

The PDS was released this week with the document focusing heavily upon rail.

Victorian Transport Association chief executive Peter Anderson said the document was significant.

“The VTA welcomes the Port of Melbourne’s PDS 2050,” Mr Anderson said.

“The issue for our industry is not about getting trucks off our roads but how we better manage the movement of freight through our communities.”

Mr Anderson said there was no time for delay.

“The Port of Melbourne needs to become more productive and efficient and we need to accelerate these plans as quickly as possible,” he said.

“It is about all stakeholders working together.”
