A NEW rail commissioner has been appointed to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
Federal minister for transport Catherine King announced Julie Bullas’ appointment and highlighted her involvement in rail safety and regulation at state and national levels.
“Her appointment recognises her significant operational achievements across those rail sectors,” Ms King said.
“She will bring her skills and extensive experience to the ATSB to assist their work addressing strategic challenges and improving rail safety across the industry.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the ATSB Commission to promote safety in the transport sector through independent investigations that result in better safety outcomes for the Australian public.”
The ATSB said Ms Bullas most recently served for 10 years as executive director, policy, reform and stakeholder engagement at the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator.
Prior to her ONRSR role she was project director for the National Rail Safety Regulator Project.
And beforfe working with the national rail regulator, Ms Bullas was the road/rail interface specialist for Queensland Rail and the director of rail safety for Queensland Transport.
ATSB welcomed Ms Bullas and thanked commissioner Catherine Scott for her service on the ATSB Commission over the past three years.
“During that time Ms Scott contributed her considerable industry expertise and knowledge to review and help shape a number of significant ATSB rail investigations and helped the ATSB set and maintain its strategic direction during a time of significant uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” ATSB said.
“The ATSB is in a stronger position for her guidance.”
Ms Bullas’ appointment came into effect on 9 October for a three-year term.
