MAERSK Line has confirmed mechanical issues are behind delays in the sailing of Maersk Semarang, a container ship currently at Port Botany.

Maersk Semarang (IMO 9330070) is a Liberian-flagged, 108448DWT box ship and is part of the so-called Dragon Service, linking Australia and Asia.

Prior to reaching Port Botany, its most recent port was Hong Kong.

“Please be advised the Maersk Semarang is facing delays to her proforma schedule due to mechanical issues prior to arrival in Sydney on 8 June,” Maersk said in a statement on 12 June.

“Repairs to the vessel are ongoing and as a result she is expected to sail minimum 12 days late from Australia.”

Imports are to remain on board and discharge in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Contingency plans for export bookings are said to be being created.

“We thank you in advance for your kind cooperation and understanding,” Maersk stated.
