MAERSK announced on Wednesday that it would terminate two services in Oceania: the Polaris and the Sirius Star.
The company cited continued schedule disruption and terminal congestion across Oceania as the reason behind the termination.
The Polaris service connects Brisbane with the New Zealand South Island ports of Timaru and Lyttelton. The Sirius Star service connects several New Zealand ports with several ports in Fiji.
In a statement to customers, Maersk said it had continued to review its network to limit the impact from the global supply chain disruption.
“Whilst the Sirius Star service has been key to connect cargo across New Zealand during the 2022 peak season, we continue to face missed connections negatively impacting our customers supply chains and cargo flows,” the company said.
“Due to restricted flexibility to alter the port rotation of the Sirius Star service, we have made the decision to restructure our Oceania network to enable improved cargo connections and supply chain stability.”
