MAERSK has launched a new air freight service between Denmark and China.
The inaugural flight on the Eurasia service took off on Monday (20 March). The service will continue with three flights per week between Billund and Hangzhou.
The company said it launched the new service in response to increasing customer demand.
All Europe-China flights are to be operated by Maersk Air Cargo, the company’s air freight division, which officially commenced in October last year.
The service will be supported by three newly converted Boeing 767-300 freighters, which Maersk Air Cargo recently added to its fleet.
Michel Pozas Lucic, global head of air at A.P. Moller – Maersk, described the introduction of the new service as “a leap” in providing integrated logistics.
“We want to ensure that our customers have the visibility, reliability, and resilience in their supply chains,” he said.
“In this, air freight with scheduled flights and controlled capacity represents a crucial part of our customers’ end-to-end logistics needs.”
Maersk expects the air freight corridor from Billund Airport is to significantly increase access for high value and time sensitive cargo between Scandinavia, Northern Europe and the entire Asia-Pacific.
It said the division’s new air freight hub at Denmark’s Billund Airport would help avoid congestion and delays experienced at larger airports.
