INTEGRATED rail and logistics provider, SCT Logistics, has announced its owner and founder, Peter Smith is stepping down as chairman and will remain on the board as a non-executive director.
Replacing him as chairman is Mark Stone AM.
Having worked in the transport sector for more than 50 years and helped pioneer rail privatisation, Mr Smith is keen to share his industry insights.
“The fundamentals of moving freight from A to B whichever the mode is the same today as they were when I started,” he said.
“You just need to look after your customers, hire the best people, be as innovative as you can and do the job smarter than the next bloke. I am fortunate to be able to work with my boys, with a loyal group of directors and the incredibly committed management team we have at SCT today.”
Mr Smith said he recognised change within any business was necessary and he was “excited to announce Mark Stone AM as our new chairman”.
“Having dealt with Mark for a number of years I have no doubt that he will represent our company well, re-energise our corporate board and provide solid management oversight,” Mr Smith said.
Mark Stone recently quit his position as chief executive of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce a position he held for several years.
“I have worked with SCT for a number of years through their association with the Victorian Chamber and relish the opportunity to Chair such a dynamic and innovative company,” Mr Stone said.
Mark has also recently been appointed chairman of Goulburn Valley Water. In a statement, SCT said Mark Stone was “highly regarded in business and political circles and we welcome him to the SCT Group”.
