LOGISTICS companies Mondiale VGL and DNV Transport are calling for donations ahead of an emergency convoy to support flood-affected communities in Lismore.
The companies are filling trucks with bedding, food, furniture, winter supplies, and appliances to assist those in need after severe flooding devastated the Northern Rivers city.
Based in Brisbane, Transport DNV is accepting donations at seven container sites around south-east Queensland to transport south into Lismore.
Mondiale VGL, located in Sydney, began its donation drive today to move truckloads of goods up north.
A spokesperson from Mondiale VGL told DCN it’s too early to know how many trucks and trips will be involved in the coming weeks, but the initiative is off to a promising start.
“We had a customer pledge a hundred mattresses this morning; that in itself is already one full truck,” they said.
The donation drive is open to all businesses in Queensland and New South Wales who are willing to donate the items requested by the Lismore community.
“Aside from transporting the consolidated donations from our Erskine Park and Port of Brisbane sites to Lismore, Mondiale VGL is also offering a free pick-up service for donations that are at least two pallet-loads within Sydney and Brisbane metro,” the spokesperson said.
Although Lismore is a long way from Sydney, Mondiale VGL was driven to support the community through its logistics capabilities.
“As the largest privately-owned freight forwarding and logistics company in Australia and New Zealand, we needed to do our part,” the spokesperson said.
“We are proud to help Australians in need.”
Mondiale VGL will be accepting collection drive donations from Monday 21 March until Friday 1 April.
