DREWRY has advised its composite World Container Index decreased by 1.4% to US$8041.50 per 40-foot container this week.
Despite the decrease, the index figure remains 64% higher than it was at the same time last year.
The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is $9116 per 40-foot container, which is $5908 higher than the five-year average of $3208 per container.
According to Drewry’s latest assessment, freight rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles have decreased by 3%, or by $288 down to $8824.
Rates from Shanghai to New York fell $228 to reach $11,303 per FEU, equating to a 3% decrease.
Spot rates on Rotterdam to Shanghai and vice versa dropped by 2% to $10,845 and $1455 per FEU respectively.
However, rates from Shanghai to Genoa increased by 2%, or by $266 to $12,232 per 40-foot container.
Rotterdam to New York rates also surged, up 3% per 40-foot container, increasing by $223 to reach $6903.
Rates on Los Angeles to Shanghai, and New York to Rotterdam each grew by 1% to reach $1275 and $1183 per FEU respectively.
According to Drewry, spot rates are expected to remain stable over the coming week.
