MPC International has today (31 October) announced its new partnership with GHD, a professional services company specialising in engineering, architecture, and construction services.
The collaboration will see MPC, a supply chain and logistics advisory firm, host LinerGame workshops at GHD offices across Australia, giving industry the opportunity to play the unique, maritime-specific table game at the hands-on events.
The Liner Shipping Game is a simulation-based training solution designed to provide hands-on insights into the complexities of running a liner shipping operation.
According to MPC, it aims to provide a realistic and engaging learning experience, making it accessible to newcomers while also challenging industry veterans through customisable scenarios.
Players are able to gain unique experience in key shipping processes such as booking uptake, vessel stowage, and terminal operations, with the game emphasising teamwork, revenue management, and decision-making under regular disruptions.
Peter Creeden, managing director of MPC International, said “We are excited to partner with GHD and bring the LinerGame workshops to major cities across Australia”.
“This initiative aims to introduce the LinerGame in these industry networking workshops to foster collaboration, enhance skills, and drive innovation within the global supply chain industry.”
Tristan Anderson, executive advisor of ports energy and supply chain at GHD added, “Hosting the LinerGame workshops aligns with our commitment to supporting professional development within the industry”.
“We’re thrilled to provide our offices as venues for these engaging, high-impact workshops.”
DCN attended one of the recent LinerGame workshops in Brisbane, describing the experience as both entertaining and informative.
The game is especially beneficial to those in the maritime and freight forwarding industries, who may not only gain skills to apply to their own roles, but also further understanding of the roles of those directly involved in container-related positions, and the challenging situations they must navigate day-to-day.
A positive element of the game is that prior knowledge of box trading is not a prerequisite to play, and even those with multiple years’ experience in shipping or freight do not necessarily possess an inherent advantage.
Players who employ a combination of teamwork, efficiency, and strategic savvy are well-placed to see their “port” turn a profit!
The 2025 LinerGame workshop schedule will see over a dozen sessions hosted across mainland Australia, including a session in Singapore. The next workshop will be held in Melbourne in December this year.
Companies and individuals interested to book into a session are encouraged by MPC to register via Eventbrite, as spaces are limited for each workshop, with registration opening 8 weeks before each 2025 event.
Those with further questions, specific inquiries, or companies interested in hosting a full-day workshop are encouraged to visit mpc-international.com.
