RAPID changes in the world of transport and logistics are central to the ‘Freight 2030’ theme for the South Australian Freight Council 2019 conference.
SAFC executive officer Evan Knapp said the conference, to be held at Adelaide Convention Centre on 29 October, would be a chance to look to the future.
“In 2030 we will have just completed the Commonwealth Government’s $100bn infrastructure funding package, and have a new Heavy Vehicle National Law bedded in – likely along with a new charging model for the heavy vehicle industry,” he said.
“From a South Australian perspective, the North-South Corridor will be complete, and we will also have completed the first half of the 20-year State Infrastructure Strategy.
“There will have been major freight impacting changes on our wharves, and we will have a new purpose built freight precinct at Adelaide Airport.”
Mr Knapp said understanding such changes now would provide the opportunity to take advantage of new business opportunities in the future.
“We encourage all freight businesses irrespective of mode, transport policy professionals and freight customers to attend to draw insight on the future of freight in Australia,” he said.
“Last year’s joint conference with ICHCA Australia was very successful – so this year we’ve been careful to ensure a balance between National and South Australian viewpoints in the program, and that the local content addresses issues of national concern.”
Some speakers this year include state infrastructure minister Stephan Knoll, Flinders Ports Holdings general manager group assets Randall Bonner, general manager of the Freight and Supply Chains Inquiry Taskforce Naa Opoku and Adelaide Airport chief executive Mark Young.
