DNV has appointed a new offshore classification director for DNV Maritime.
The classification society announced on Monday that Torgeir Sterri had been appointed to the role. Mr Sterri’s most recent role with the organisation was as regional manager for West Europe.
DNV Maritime CEO Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen said offshore classification is part of the bedrock of DNV.
“The complexity in design and build, environmental demands, and above all the need to ensure safety, requires close co-operation, efficiency, and deep technical understanding,” he said.
“I am delighted that Torgeir has accepted the role of offshore classification director.”
Mr Sterri will be based in Norway, heading up the global Offshore Class organisation, comprising more than 130 employees.
He succeeds Geir Fuglerud, who has been appointed CEO of DNV’s Supply Chain & Product Assurance business area.
“Whether in oil and gas, renewable energy, or new ocean space activities like aquaculture, the offshore sector will remain vitally important over the coming years,” Mr Sterri said.
“In offshore wind alone, the expected scale of the roll-out towards 2030 is remarkable.
“It is a very exciting time ahead and at DNV we want to utilise our experience and knowledge to act as a key enabler of the sector’s expansion.”
Lucas Ribeiro assumes the role of regional manager for West Europe, succeeding Mr Sterri.
Mr Ørbeck-Nilssen thanked Mr Ribeiro for accepting the role.
“Lucas has a wealth of experience from a long career in DNV,” he said.
“I am confident that the insights and leadership he brings will ensure continued support for our customers as they seek to tackle the complex challenges facing the industry.”
And Mr Ribeiro said it was an honour to have been asked to take on the role and work in one of DNV’s “most important” markets.
“The region is a hub for innovation and home to many of the industry’s leading companies and key stakeholders,” he said.
“I can’t wait to be based in Hamburg, DNV’s home for shipping, and look forward to connecting with our customers in Germany and across the region.”
Lucas Ribeiro has worked in DNV for the past 35 years, holding different positions in South America, Asia and Europe.
