FOUR men were arrested at an industrial site over an alleged attempt to import methylamphetamine into Sydney.

On 16 March the Australian Border Force intercepted a “suspicious” imported consignment that was found to contain 60 kilograms of methylamphetamine.

The drugs were concealed inside an industrial magnet. Police say they have an estimated street value of $18 million.

The State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad, the Australian Federal Police and ABF began a joint investigation earlier this year under Strike Force Merfield to investigate the importation of illicit drugs into New South Wales.

Strike force investigators and AFP officers conducted a controlled delivery of the consignment to an industrial site in Ingleside in Northern Sydney on 22 March.

Four men, aged 21, 22, 25 and 30 were arrested as they allegedly tried to access the consignment with an angle grinder.

They were taken to Manly Police Station, and each charged with attempt to possess a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.

Following further inquiries, strike force detectives executed search warrants at homes in Ingleside, Frenches Forest and Roselands.

During the searches, police seized prohibited drugs including 338 grams of an unknown white powder, bank cards, electronic devices including DECCD mobile phones and documentation.

The men were all refused bail to appear before Manly Local Court on Thursday 23 March 2023.
