ROUGH seas are believed to have contributed to an incident where three containers fell overboard from the Liberian ship Navios Unite (IMO 9302619) on Thursday night.
The incident happened about 33km south west of Cape Leeuwin, Western Australia, as the ship was sailing to Adelaide from Fremantle.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority issued a statement saying it had deployed its Challenger jet from Perth to search an area of about 1600 square km for any sightings of the missing containers.
As of Friday afternoon, no containers were sighted.
“AMSA is gathering information about the incident and will determine its course of action once the circumstances are understood,” an AMSA spokesperson said.
The incident comes just over a month after an incident south-east of Sydney where the APL England lost 50 containers into the ocean.
Both the APL England and the Navios Unite were chartered by ANL.
In late May 2018, the YM Efficiency famously lost 80 containers in the waters off Newcastle.
