CMA CGM’s new specialist air freight division is to begin operations starting 8 March with the first Airbus A330-200F cargo flight between Liege and Chicago.
A second A330-200F will begin serving the US market starting 16 March.
The company said the air cargo division would be based at Liege airport, relying on Air Belgium to operate the aircraft.
CMA CGM said it would develop a blocked space agreement on board its aircraft with subsidiary Ceva Logistics.
CMA CGM Air Cargo director Xavier Eiglier said, “The launch of CMA CGM Air Cargo represents a significant event in developing a comprehensive range of logistics services for the CMA CGM Group’s clients. These initial destinations in the US demonstrate our desire to offer our clients international coverage, serving the biggest freight airports in the heart of major economic areas”.
