CLASSNK has endorsed Inmarsat’s Fleet Secure Endpoint, a cybersecurity service for ships.
The classification society issued a certification under satisfaction that the product fulfils IMO 2021 functional elements on maritime cybersecurity.
Fleet Secure Endpoint is part of Inmarsat’s suite of vessel network protection products, developed in partnership with vessel cybersecurity company Port-IT.
“In order to promote the spread and development of innovative technologies, ClassNK has offered Innovation Endorsement for Products & Solutions,” ClassNK said.
“ClassNK supports the deployment of products and services through third-party certification for equipment and software technology with innovative functions.”
ClassNK highlighted the service’s anti-virus, firewall and malware detection functions. It found the product also protects against vulnerabilities on devices and networks on board.
Inmarsat Maritime director of retail Laurie Eve said Fleet Secure Endpoint enables shipping companies to protect vessel networks and comply with regulatory requirements.
“It therefore offers owners peace of mind at a time when cyber-attacks are on the rise. We are grateful to JSAT MOBILE Communications and Port-IT for their assistance in preparing the application, and, of course, to ClassNK for issuing the certification.”
Port-IT CEO Youri Hart said the product was specifically designed for the maritime industry.
Far from being an off-the-shelf Endpoint Detection and Response solution, it includes features designed for use at sea, with reports that are fully covering the IMO 2021 regulation.
“Furthermore, its benefits are available to owners and managers of any ship type and fleet size – and with any level of IT proficiency.”
And JSAT Mobile Communications CEO Katsuaki Koike said ClassNK’s endorsement offers certainty that the product meets the requirements set out in the IMO 2021 cyber regulation.
“It also means that users can save time and money in evaluating the solution – as all necessary tests have already been performed by a leading classification society.
“We are pleased with the outcome of our collaboration with Inmarsat, Port-IT, and ClassNK.”
