GEELONGPORT has announced it has signed a four-year lease agreement with Riordan Grain Services for a 3000 square meter shed on Corio Quay North.
The on-site storage capacity is expected to improve grain exporting efficiency and provide more options for grain marketing.
Since their first shipment in 2018 using the pioneering mobile bulk loading system, Riordan have built up an annual export program of close to one million tonnes of grain in 2024.
Jim Riordan, managing director of Riordan, said he was “very pleased” to secure the lease for the shed as it will provide critical capacity for the sophisticated logistics involved in export grain shipments.
“We have experienced growth in our business for more than 25 years, and this agreement with GeelongPort means that we can be more confident in making plans,” he said.
“This is a significant addition to our business that will also support jobs in Geelong and provide Victorian grain growers more choices for grain marketing.”
Mr Riordan said the company has worked well with GeelongPort over the last five years to build an export program for wheat, barley, and canola from Victoria to markets including Japan, South America, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Southeast Asia.
GeelongPort stakes its claim as Victoria’s premier bulk port, by providing access to logistics routes for Geelong and south-west Victoria’s supply chains.
GeelongPort chief executive officer Brett Winter said the port was proud of its longstanding relationship with the prominent local, family-owned business.
