TASPORTS has announced the nine recipients of the port’s Community Grants Program, launched earlier this year.

TasPorts said it has been offering grants of up to $5000 to local projects, initiatives and events that are deemed beneficial to the people living around Tasmania’s commercial and community ports.

The latest round awarded $45,000 in funding and $15,000 in-kind support to recipients engaged with communities in port regions, marine safety, maritime heritage and marine coastal and environmental protection.

TasPorts group executive governance and corporate affairs Kate Dean said the organisation was proud to support the communities surrounding the ports.

“We remain committed to operating in a socially responsible manner to support sustainable economic and social growth for Tasmania, and this commitment extends to the people and groups who live and work around us,” she said.

Festival of King Island, Mersey Yacht Club, Spring Bay Maritime & Discovery Centre and the Royal Hobart Regatta were among this year’s funding recipients, each for a specific reason.

For example, TasPorts awarded funding to Mersey Yacht Club to enable the purchase of communal club use navigation devices and AIS enabled mob beacons.

TasPorts also awarded a grant to sail training vessel One and All, to enable 20 parents and their teenage children to sail the tall ship at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival 2023.

TasPorts encouraged eligible organisations to consider applying for the next round of grants, with $50,000 in funding available in April next year. Applications open on 1 February.
