PORT Authority of New South Wales was recognised as a finalist at the National Banksia Sustainability Awards.

The latest round of awards follows the Banksia Foundation’s state-level 2022 NSW Sustainability Awards, where the port authority received the NSW Large Business Transformation award.

Sponsored by EY, the award recognises outstanding achievements that integrate sustainability principles and practices across business activities.

Port Authority of NSW CEO Philip Holliday said the business was one of five in the running in the category, selected from hundreds of competing organisations.

“As a relatively small organisation filled with passionate people, as a state-owned corporation and as members of the maritime community, we are just so proud of this recognition,” Mr Holliday said.

“It is not lost on me how far we have come to be a finalist for such acclaim within a few short years.”

Mr Holliday believes the port authority is leading change beyond its own business.

“I want to congratulate our remarkable sustainability team, who have been working tirelessly since 2019 to create positive change, embed sustainability into every business practice and achieve sustainable outcomes across all areas in which Port Authority operates.

“This is truly a business wide effort, and our successes would not be possible without the contributions and commitments of all staff to our sustainability and net zero journey. This work is paving the way for a brighter tomorrow.

“Congratulations to all finalists and to the outright winner of the Large Business Sustainable Leadership Award, Woolworths. We are honoured to be in your company!”

Banksia Foundation CEO Graz van Egmond said the winners were drawn from a record number of entries, demonstrating optimism and hope for a brighter future despite fears for the economy in the short term.

“These are Australia’s brightest leaders, changemakers and innovators who are making a positive impact on our world,” Ms van Egmond said.

The National Banksia Sustainability Awards were held in Melbourne in March.
