SHIPPING company ANL has outlined is recent work to aid the rescue and rehabilitation of sea turtles with its Turtle Preservation Project.

Established in May this year, the project is a partnership between ANL and the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre on Fitzroy Island in the Great Barrier Reef.

“The ocean is where we work, and thus we have immense respect for it and the life it supports,” ANL managing director Shane Walden said.

“The Turtle Preservation Project provides an opportunity to give back, raise awareness for a challenge in Oceania while supporting a worthy cause aligned with our values.

“We look forward to seeing the preservation of sea turtles well into the future.”

And Jennie Gilbert, co-founder of Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, said the organisation is dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick and injured turtles.

“To do this important work we rely on contributions from many supporters and volunteers, we’re so glad to see ANL and the CMA CGM Group join our team.”

Since its establishment. the Turtle Preservation Project has enabled the installation of a new turtle hospital tank pump on the island.

ANL said the pump ensures ideal conditions are maintained and replicated for turtle recovery.

The company has also sponsored the rescue of an injured sea turtle, supporting the specialised care of her rehabilitation and, in time, her release back into the ocean.

ANL said the project aligns with parent company CMA CGM’s stated goal of preservation of biodiversity.

CMA CGM Group are reportedly also supporting an educational program where the rehabilitation highlights the impact of plastics on the sea turtle population.

In the long term, the Turtle Preservation Project aims to aid the release of healthy turtles and track where the rehabilitated animals travel after their recovery.
