DREWRY’S composite World Container Index decreased by 0.1% to US$7625.56 per 40-foot container this week.
However, the index remains 18% higher than it was one year ago.
The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is US$8614 per 40-foot container, which is US$5214 higher than the five-year average of US$3400 per 40-foot container.
Freight rates on Shanghai – Los Angeles and Shanghai – New York remained steady; however, they are 46% and 44% higher than the same week in 2021, respectively.
Rates on Shanghai – Rotterdam, Rotterdam – Shanghai, Shanghai – Genoa, Los Angeles – Shanghai, Rotterdam – New York and New York – Rotterdam hovered around previous weeks level.
Drewry expects index to decrease slowly in the next few weeks.
