VICTORIA International Container Terminal is increasing its infrastructure charge on 1 July.
The automated container terminal at the Port of Melbourne’s Webb Dock is upping the charge from $141.80 per full container (import and export) to $161.35, a difference of $19.55 and a 14% increase.
In an industry notice VICT said the larger charge is a “direct result of increasing costs” in the industry over the past 12 months. It said the charge is a “direct pass through” to its customers to recover those costs.
“VICT has continued to maintain a sub 37-minute gate to gate truck turn time over the last twelve months even though there has been more activity within our gates,” the company said in its industry notice.
The company said it had committed to investing $235 million into the terminal. This investment, the company said, includes six auto-stacking cranes, which will create a further three storage blocks and 15 more truck lanes.
“This increase in infrastructure will boost our VBS time slot offerings to the market by up to 30% per hour and expect to be online in the 4th quarter 2023,” VICT said.
VICT’s announcement of an increase in infrastructure charges comes after Hutchison in April announced a hike in its fees at its terminals in Brisbane and Sydney.
