CONTAINER trade at the Port of Brisbane has been picking up, according to the latest trade statistics from the port.
The total container throughput at the Port of Brisbane for the month of June was 134,260 TEU – an increase of 12.6% on the same month last year.
Container numbers for the rolling past 12 months also increased from 1.49 million TEU in the 12 months to June 2021 to 1.54 million TEU this year – an increase of 3%.
These increases were largely driven by increases in imports. In June of this year, a total of 64,825 TEU crossed the Brisbane wharves, an increase of 21% on the same month last year.
Imports also increased when looking at the 12 months through June – this year imports over the period were 730,302 TEU, an increase of 1.65% on the corresponding period last year.
