MABUTI the giraffe made a successful journey from Adelaide to New Zealand thanks to the efforts of Powerhouse Logistics and ANL Container Line.
Mabuti’s journey began at daybreak on 10 November with a 700km road trip from Adelaide to the DP World Australia terminal at West Swanson Dock, Melbourne.
From Melbourne, the 18-month old giraffe was carefully loaded onto the vessel ANL Elanora.
Powerhouse Logistics project management specialist Kelly McGinty said the project to relocate Mabuti was “meticulously orchestrated with the dedication of many teams working tirelessly at all times, to ensure the safety and comfort of this beautiful giraffe”.
Mabuti was accompanied on his voyage by specialised support staff consisting of his keeper and a vet who remained by his side until he was safely in his new home, where he is expected to perform his new role in the breeding and conservation program of his species.
Ms McGinty said Powerhouse and ANL move an enormous amount of cargo each year and were delighted to work closely together on “such a unique project”.
“We would like to extend a special thank you to the ANL Team, in particular to Ben Tarr, for his exceptional customer service as well as to Marilyn ‘Mayen’ Palingcod, for her continued support,” she said.
“Also a big thank you to all the others who were involved with the transport from South Australia, the coordination at DP World Terminal Melbourne, the captain and crew of the ANL Elanora.”
