Port of Brisbane recently announced the retirement of longstanding chief operating officer Peter Keyte following many years of service

PORT of Brisbane chief operating officer Peter Keyte recently stepped back after 20 years in the business and a further 22 years in the industry before that.

Mr Keyte joined the Port of Brisbane in January 2004 as general manager port operations, before stepping into the COO role in 2010. Prior to joining the Port of Brisbane, he worked in the shipping and stevedoring industry with P&O, holding senior management positions in various P&O Group companies, working in the UK, New Zealand, Asia and Sydney.

Port of Brisbane CEO Neil Stephens said Mr Keyte had made a significant contribution to the business, the wider Port of Brisbane community, and the ports and logistics industry more broadly.

“In his role, Peter has helped guide our business through many milestone events and company transitions including leading a multi-agency operational response to the Moreton Bay oil spill in 2009, the privatisation of PBPL in 2010, and played a key role in the successful proposal and delivery of the new Brisbane International Cruise Terminal in 2020,” Mr Stephens said.

He said Mr Keyte was responsible for the operation of the Brisbane Multimodal Terminal, port operations and port security during his tenure.

“However, over the course of his time at PBPL, he has also held responsibility for other areas of the business including marine and dredging operations, trade development and strategy, health and safety, and emergency response,” Mr Stephens said.

“We wish Peter and his family the very best on this next stage and thank him for his incredible contribution to our business and for his friendship and counsel over the years.”

Thursday 22 August 2024 was set to be Mr Keyte’s last day with the company.
