FIVE modules for Woodside’s Pluto Train 2 project, including one which weighed a massive 3,536 tonnes, were moved through the port of Dampier between 6 and 12 September.
Facilitated by the Port of Dampier’s terminal operations team the movements for the Pluto Train 2 project on the Burrup Peninsula required full road closures in and out of the port.
A post on the Pilbara Ports LinkedIn page said to safely transport modules of this size, the team had to coordinate a full road closure in and out of the port, while minimising the impact on other port users.
“From there, the process is a slow and steady one, as the team must navigate up one of the steepest inclines out of a port in Australia while travelling at a maximum speed of 5 km/h.
“It is a massive undertaking for our terminal operations team, and we are beyond thankful for their work,” the post said.
The Pluto Train 2 project has now delivered more than 50% of its modules since November 2023 and has even larger modules to come.
Pluto LNG processes gas from the offshore Pluto and Xena gas fields in Western Australia with gas piped through a 180-kilometre trunkline to a single onshore LNG-processing train.
Woodside’s Pluto Train 2 will provide a second gas processing train and will have a capacity of about 5 million tonnes per annum.
