WEATHER and strike warnings have been called off at the Fremantle Ports.
The threat of industrial action by VTS officers and small craft masters planned for Sunday and Monday, 25 and 26 August was called off after an in-principle agreement was reached between Fremantle Ports and Marine Services employees on terms and conditions of employment under the proposed Enterprise Agreement.
Vessel traffic services officers and small craft masters were due to undertake a 48-hour protected industrial action from 5.30am Sunday but this did not occur.
Fremantle Ports CEO Jodie Ransom said the notices to take action had been withdrawn by workers in good faith following negotiations on Saturday.
“This is a positive outcome that will ensure shipping lines, importers and exporters and the public won’t be impacted further,” Ms Ransom said.
“It demonstrates that respectful and collaborative negotiation can deliver outcomes that work for all.”

And, in what’s been a topsy turvy weekend at the port gale warnings which forced vessels out to sea have been cancelled.
A shipping agents’ memo from Harbour Master Captain Savio Fernandes on 24 August said Fremantle Ports’ scheduling teams would start shipping activities from late 24 August.
“Sequencing for berthing will be subject to weather conditions at the allocated pilot boarding grounds, terminal priorities and labour availability,” the memo said.
“Vessels returning to Outer and Gage roads anchorages will be permitted to anchor from early morning hours on Sunday 25 August 2024. Vessels returning to ORAN or ORA anchorages will be prioritised after berthing movements.”
