THE FREMANTLE Chamber of Commerce is expecting maritime businesses to play a major part in its just-announced “People’s Choice” Business Awards 2024.

Last year several marine businesses featured in the winners list which culminated in a glittering sold-out gala awards ceremony at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle.

They included the Champion Marine & Engineering category which went to Harbour Services Australia; and Champion International Trade (Exporters & Importers) which went to Australian Global Exports.

Chamber CEO, Chrissie Maus said she expected Fremantle’s long history as a maritime centre to be reflected in this year’s nominations which opened on 12 August and close at noon on 11 September.

Following on from the success of last year’s awards, voting will again be carried out by members of the public.

Ms Maus said there were three particular categories that were relevant for marine businesses.

Ocean Economy includes all local and international trade businesses and agencies, plus marine, engineering and industrial businesses.

“It’s for any business that touches our beautiful Indian Ocean (and the blue waters beyond),” Ms Maus said.

Business & Professional Services includes all IT and legal firms, accountants, training organisations, architects, printers, painters, plumbers and all consultants, plus agencies that service the greater Fremantle region.

“They are a business service that requires specialised knowledge and skill usually of a physical or intellectual nature and usually requiring a licence or certification.”

The Hall of Fame includes businesses that have been operational for 10 or more years and stand out as a business that is the soul of Fremantle. They can be any business, from any sector.

The winner in each category will receive a $3000 marketing package.

The Awards Gala will be held on Thursday 10 October 2024 at The Esplanade Hotel Fremantle.

Businesses can be nominated at the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce website.
