PORT of Brisbane has announced upgrades have begun at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal, to be rolled out over the winter months.
An expansion of onsite car parking is nearing completion, which will add up to 340 new car park spaces for cruise passengers and staff.
Works commenced in June to add shade to the terminal’s outdoor waiting areas, and works will begin from today on the taxi rank area, to increase capacity and improve vehicle flow.
PBPL CEO Neil Stephens commented on the continued investment into BICT from Port of Brisbane following the first two years of operation at the terminal, which saw over 300 visits from cruise ships.
“We are incredibly proud of the world-class Brisbane International Cruise Terminal. Purpose-built for cruise, it was designed in close collaboration with the industry and with the aim to provide a seamless passenger experience being front of mind,” Mr Stephens said.
“Over the last two years, we’ve welcomed over 300 cruise ships and there have been 1.5 million passenger movements through the terminal. That’s enabled us to identify further improvement opportunities, such as a significant expansion of our onsite car parking, the addition of more shade to outdoor waiting areas and improving the capacity and flow of the taxi rank.
“We believe that this will make it an even more efficient and comfortable experience for passengers, staff and stakeholders who contribute to the terminal’s success.”
BICT is owned and operated by Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd. Though the terminal officially opened in 2020, it did not see its first visit from a cruise ship until 2022, due to Covid-19.
