ORIENT Overseas Container Line has been awarded the trophy for Best Green Shipping Line at 2024 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain Awards.

This year’s awards, held in Shanghai, saw the Hong Kong-headquartered container line take home the trophy for the third year in a row. 

The award is given to the ocean liner that outperforms its peers in several areas, such as compliance with regulations and environmental standards, investment in green initiatives, strategic planning, policy setting to reduce operational emissions, and staff training.

In an announcement declaring their receival of the award, OOCL signposted their continued commitment to pursuing environmental initiatives noting the company had reduced its average shipping carbon emissions by more than 53% since 2008.

Commenting on the award win, Michael Xu, director of trades at OOCL said, “We would like to thank (our) customers and all other business partners for their support and recognition to OOCL.

“Moving forward, we will continue to advance our journey in green transition and fully support the industry moving towards Net Zero by 2050.”

Award nominees are voted on by more than 15,000 voters from the freight and logistics industries, as well as clients from the Asia-Pacific region who are involved in international business.
