INTERNATIONAL Container Terminal Services has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions for its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050.
ICTSI is the owner of the Victoria International Container Terminal in Melbourne.
Scope 1 emissions refers to emissions made from operations directly owned or controlled by the company, and scope 2 refers to emissions from the generation of electricity used in a company’s operations.
ICTSI executive vice-president Christian R. Gonzalez said the company’s commitment to decarbonisation targets marks an important step on its journey to becoming a more sustainable company and
“As part of this, we are actively implementing initiatives to maximise energy and resource efficiency, reduce carbon intensity, and lower emissions,” he said.
The company has committed to targets on its path to net-zero. It said it would reduce its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 26% by 2030, compared with 2021.
The company is said it is evaluating emissions across its entire value chain and would develop an inventory by 2025, followed by a target review.
ICTSI said it has already achieved carbon neutrality in four terminals in the Americas: Contecon Guayaquil in Ecuador, Contecon Manzanillo in Mexico and Tecon Suape and Rio Brasil Terminal in Brazil.
