AUTHORITIES are calling for public assistance after intercepting 312 kilograms of liquid meth bound for Melbourne in air cargo.

In July this year US authorities at Los Angeles International Airport found the drugs in a consignment labelled as “vegetable fluid oil” destined for Australia.

The drugs were concealed in two black drums. Police in Australia and the US worked together to seize the drugs and monitor the delivery to Australia.

The Australian Federal Police understands the consignment was held in storage for two weeks after it arrived in Australia, before it was delivered to a property in rural Victoria.

AFP and Victoria Police monitored the delivery of the consignment to a property near Tooborac, Victoria on 5 September.

The rural property was not occupied, and AFP investigators searched a number of locations in Melbourne and Brisbane when no one claimed the consignment.

The AFP said it has no information to suggest whether the consignment would have been moved to another location.

It said its investigators have spoken to a number of people, but no one has been charged. The investigation is ongoing.

AFP Detective Superintendent Kristie Cressy the AFP and its partner agencies work hard to detect concealments of any nature.

“We are certain there are people in Australia who know something about this importation or may have seen suspicious activity in the vicinity of Tooborac during the past few weeks,” Det-Supt Cressy said.

“We are urging anyone who may have any knowledge or information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppers.com.au.”

The consignment will undergo further forensic testing to determine the purity of the substance.
