PILBARA Ports Authority has awarded the sixth and final major contract for landside civils and landscaping on the Spoilbank Marina project in Port Hedland.
The $187-million project is designed to alleviate demand on existing boat launch facilities and improve access and safety for boaters.
The contract includes the construction of the marina roads, car and trailer parking, retaining walls, footpaths, landscaping, public amenities building, shade structures, barbecue areas and the installation of utilities and services.
The contract was awarded to Western Australian business Ertech.
“The final contract award is an exciting milestone that will provide further opportunities for local businesses and contractors to be involved in the project,” Pilbara Ports CEO Sam McSkimming said.
PPA said Ertech has already mobilised to site and will begin construction in July.
The Spoilbank Marina project is being managed by Pilbara Ports, and is funded by the state government, Town of Port Hedland and BHP.
PPA said marina construction is “progressing well”, with the basin excavated and connected to the ocean. Work continues on the breakwaters, new navigation channel and marine structures.
The marina boat ramps are expected to be operational in late 2023, with final completion of remaining marine and landside areas expected in 2024.
