REPAIRS to the Port of Currie slipway on King Island are due to begin next week.
TasPorts closed the slipway at the port late last year because of the poor condition of submerged sections of the slipway.
TasPorts attributed the damage to age and exposure to the marine environment over many years.
Tasmania-based contractor BridgePro Engineering, engaged by TasPorts, plans to start mobilising equipment to the site on Monday 12 June.
TasPorts chief operating officer Stephen Casey said works were expected to commence the following day and be completed by 27 June, weather permitting.
“The contractors have advised us that they will need to close sections of the port while undertaking the works,” he said.
“The safety of port users, TasPorts personnel and contractors and the wider community is a critically important consideration for the organisation.
“TasPorts will therefore need to consider access for port users on a case-by-case basis while the works are undertaken.”
Mr Casey thanked Port of Currie slipway users for their co-operation during the closure.
