A PILING barge has arrived in the Port of Devonport to help construct the wharf for TasPorts’ QuayLink project.
Project contractors Hazel Brady Joint Venture brought in the specially fitted piling barge Rebecca Lily to install the 50 steel piles that arrived in April.
Rebecca Lily installed the first tubular pile at the end of May. It will form part of QuayLink’s Terminal 3.
“We’re also using an innovative fusion bonded epoxy coating system that offers significant durability enhancements and lower ongoing maintenance requirements for the piles,” TasPorts said in an update.
“The tubular steel piles are being transported by a barge from the west side of the river (where they are being stored in a laydown area) to Berth 3E, Devonport East.
“With a 500T piling rig and S80 hydrohammer, the Rebecca Lily will work 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off with both an impact hammer and a vibratory hammer.”
TasPorts expects the works to take around six months to complete.
It noted “every effort will be made” to minimise noise disruption to the surrounding community.
