SVITZER Australia has appointed Tully Barnes as its new general manager – west.

Mr Barnes will be responsible for the company’s harbour and terminal towage operations in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea.

Mr Barnes previously was leading Svitzer’s Darwin port operations as head of defence projects.

In a message to customers, Svitzer Australia general manager Nicolaj Noes said Mr Barnes is a great sea-to-shore to leadership story, with a background in the Navy as a chief engineer before joining Svitzer and moving on to a variety of technical, project and operational management roles.

“I am confident under Tully’s leadership our strong team in the west will continue to deliver and support our harbour and terminal towage customers and port stakeholders in achieving their port and shipping safety, efficiency and sustainability goals,” Mr Noes said.

“It is great to be able to draw on our internal talent to appoint to this important role within our Australian leadership team, and Tully’s existing knowledge of the business ensures a high level of understanding to meet our valued customers’ needs.”

Mr Noes said Mr Barnes is effective in the role this week and a planned recruitment and handover process is underway to fill his previous roles and responsibilities.
