THE PRIME Minister visited Port Hedland this week to announce a $565-million investment for port upgrades in the Pilbara.
Part of the funding will go to the Lumsden Point facility at Port Hedland. The project is in partnership with the Western Australian government, which is contributing $96.5 million.
In other news, Australian logistics business Seaway acquired BCR Australia, a Sydney-based freight forwarding company.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority detained a ro-ro vessel which caught fire in Port Melbourne, while the Maritime Union of Australia claimed a stevedore was left on board after the fire broke out.
Also, rail operator Aurizon entered into an 11-year contract with Team Global Express to carry containerised freight around Australia.
And finally, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission lost its appeal in a case over the legality of the port sale deals between the New South Wales government, NSW Ports and the Port of Newcastle.
