ANL has launched its first reconciliation action plan, outlining its vision to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Reconciliation action plans (RAP) are documents formalising organisational commitments to advance reconciliation.
There are four levels of RAP, beginning with Reflect and progressing through to Innovate, Stretch and Elevate.
ANL’s new RAP is a Reflect document. It said this type of plan typically spans 12 months and is suited to organisations at the beginning of their reconciliation journey.
The shipping company said its first action plan aims to build a socially and culturally aware workplace and to create a more inclusive one.
The RAP considers the impact ANL has on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and outlines the organisation’s intentions to contribute to initiatives that support them.
ANL managing director Shane Walden said the company’s ESG strategy focuses on people, planet and fair trade.
“As part of our acting for people approach, our reflect RAP gives us a platform to learn more about indigenous cultures and appreciate how we can build opportunities in the future,” he said.
And Marc Bourdon, managing director of CMA CGM group agencies – Oceania, believes the plan will help the company build respectful partnerships with the community on a local level and share what it learns.
With the new RAP in place, ANL intends to review and develop the group’s recruitment processes to improve employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
