KAWASAKI Heavy Industries has this week delivered a liquefied petroleum gas carrier for NYK Line.
Lantana Planet is the 69th LPG carrier the company has built, and its fourth 84,000 cubic-metre LPG carrier with a dual-fuel main engine.
“In order to effectively reduce emissions of greenhouse gases from international shipping, more vessels are adopting liquefied gases as an alternative to heavy fuel oil on a global scale,” Kawasaki said.
“This very large LPG carrier is powered by LPG, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and is expected to significantly reduce environmental impact.
“It is the fruit of the Kawasaki Group’s accumulated knowledge in building LPG and LNG carriers and LNG-fuelled vessels.”
Kawasaki said it plans to develop and build more LPG-fuelled LPG carriers and other commercial ships that meet environmental standards.
It also intends to develop other sustainable marine technologies including vessels for transporting liquefied hydrogen.
Panama-flagged Lantana Planet is 230 metres long (LOA) and 55,153 dwt.
