PORT Authority of New South Wales took out the NSW Large Business Transformation award at the 2022 NSW Sustainability Awards in Sydney.

The annual awards are an initiative of the NSW Government and the Banksia Foundation, intended to showcase the best of sustainability and innovation across the state.

The NSW Large Business Transformation award is sponsored by accounting firm EY and recognises achievements that integrate sustainability principles and practices across business activities.

Port Authority of NSW CEO Philip Holliday said he “couldn’t be prouder” for the business to be recognised for its sustainability initiatives.

He traced the port authority’s efforts back to the development of its first ever Sustainability Plan.

“For two years, Port Authority has been on a sustainability journey that has led to significant changes within, and beyond, our own business including initiatives that range from ethical and fair procurement, to major projects that are a first for Australia, others a first for the Southern Hemisphere and the world,” Mr Holliday said.

He said the port authority recognised the potential for leading change across the maritime industry to protect the environment.

“Our progress in such a short period of time is due to the commitment of our staff, proving when you have a great plan created by your people, anything is possible.

“I am personally incredibly proud of the people in our modest corporation that are making this our reality every day in their work, as we look ahead to the future.”

The Port Authority of NSW congratulated all the winners and finalists in the 2022 NSW Sustainability Awards for their work.

Banksia Foundation CEO Graz van Egmond commended this year’s winners for their ambition, creativity and innovation.

“Our judges were impressed by the calibre of this year’s winners and especially, the young leaders who are inspiring local communities to take climate actions,” says Ms van Egmond.

As a winner in the NSW Sustainability Awards, the port authority will be automatically entered into the 34th National Banksia Sustainability Awards.

The winners of the national awards will be announced in March 2023.
