MID West Ports Authority has awarded its Geraldton Port Maximisation Project tender to Western Australian company BG&E Resources.
In May, the Western Australian government announced funding approval of $350 million for MWPA’s project, which it calls “PMaxP”.
The government said the project is a major infrastructure initiative for the Port of Geraldton. It is in response to a significant projected throughput increase from 15 million tonnes to around 25 million tonnes per annum over the next 10 years.
BG&E Resources will be responsible for supervising, managing and co-ordinating construction throughout the project.
The company is a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy based in Perth. It has experience in the delivery of large-scale projects, particularly in the resources industry and marine environment.
The expansion will be carried out over the next four years.
Design works are underway and several forward works projects have already commenced onsite at the Port of Geraldton.
Western Australian ports minister Rita Saffioti said the award of the tender is an exciting milestone for the project.
“We want to see the Mid-West thrive and investing in the growth of the Geraldton Port is going to be absolutely critical to achieving that,” she said.
“We have allocated $350 million to deliver this critical expansion to the Geraldton Port, which will deliver continued economic growth, trade diversification and export competitiveness.”
