A SERIES of freight forums lined up for seven regional communities from later this month will explore the future of freight in regional New South Wales.
Freight forums in Parkes, Dubbo, Grafton, Tamworth, Singleton, Griffith and Narrabri will focus on planning for freight in each area and investments in new projects and initiatives.
For example, in Dubbo, the forum will consider improved access for road and rail freight, rail connectivity to the port and upgrades to key freight routes.
In Narrabri, the forum will feature discussions on the inland port and Inland Rail.
Sam Farraway, minister for regional roads and transport, said freight injects $66 billion into the New South Wales economy each year.
“Freight is a priority for our government and we know that local industry insight is critical to the future success of our state’s freight economy,” Mr Farraway said.
“We are delivering legacy infrastructure throughout the bush to keep people and goods moving.
“We are also listening to industry so we can better understand issues facing our regional operators and customers, as well as gaining feedback on the work we are doing.
Mr Farraway said the forums will allow the government to engage with industry through discussions with local freight operators and customers about the challenges they face.
“We are committed to improving the connectivity, capacity and resilience of our freight network in response to the changing needs of communities and business across NSW,” he said.
The series will commence in Parkes on 27 October and conclude in Narrabri on 11 November.
