GENERAL cargo ship Sea Eagle sank while cargo was being offloaded at the Turkish port of Iskenderun this week.
According to reports, from 17 to 24 containers went overboard and Pier 3 at Iskenderun Limak Port has been closed.
No injuries have been reported in the incident.
The Turkish General Directorate of Maritime Affairs said the ship listed to starboard because of an imbalance in the weight distribution of the cargo.
According to the directorate, a small amount of fuel leaked from the ship, but “necessary precautions” had been taken.
Sea Eagle is flagged in Togo and called the Turkish port of Mersin before it made the voyage to Iskenderun. The vessel’s cargo capacity is 4281 tonnes DWT and is 88.6 metres long (LOA).
The ship was built in 1984.
