YANG Ming Marine Transport Corporation has welcomed its newest 11,000 TEU class container vessel, YM Tutorial.
The vessel is chartered from Shoei Kisen Kaisha. Imabari Shipbuilding Company built the vessel. YM Tutorial was named at a ceremony held at Imabari Hiroshima Shipyard on 17 June. It entered into Yang Ming’s transpacific West Coast route PS6 15 July.
Yang Ming has ordered 14 11,000-TEU newbuilds through long-term charter agreements with ship owners.
YM Tutorial is the 12th vessel in the series.
This type of vessels has a nominal capacity of 11,860 TEU and is equipped with 1000 plugs for reefer containers.
The vessels have a length of 333.9 meters, a width of 48.4 meters, a draft of 16 meters. They are designed to cruise at a speed of up to 23 knots. The containerships incorporate various environmental features including scrubbers, water ballast treatment plants and alternative marine power systems.
This type of vessel adopts the twin-island design to increase loading capacity and navigational visibility to ensure greater efficiency and safety.
With shorter length and beam, the ship is easier to manoeuvre during berthing or departure, according to Yang Ming. The dimensions enable the ships to call at major ports worldwide and pass through the new Panama Canal with little restriction.
Yang Ming has taken delivery of 12 vessels since 2020, 11 of which have been deployed on the company’s transpacific routes.
The port rotation for the first voyage of YM Tutorial in PS6 is Qingdao – Ningbo – Pusan – Los Angeles – Kobe – Qingdao.
