NORTHERN Stevedoring Services, a port services business with operations in Townsville and other ports in Queensland, has announced the appointment of Adrian Farren to the role of general manager. The appointment will take affect following David King’s retirement from the role on 1 July.
Mr Farren recently assisted the NSS board with the establishment of a new strategy for the company. This will look at developing connectivity, including additional import infrastructure and rail infrastructure, across the Mt Isa to Townsville supply chain.
“We commit ourselves to ensuring that our operations remain locally managed, and drive value outcomes for regional Queensland,” he said.
NSS chairman Don Smithwick said: “Adrian brings not only his local knowledge of the region and financial experience to the role, but also his understanding of NSS’ operations, our people and clients. We are excited by our upcoming plans and are confident in Adrian’s ability to deliver these, targeting further development of trade in the region.”
The NSS Board thanked Mr King for his “significant contribution to NSS over many years and roles”.
NSS employs more than 170 employees across regional Queensland. The company said it has been instrumental in aggregating freight in the region, and it assisted in developing liner trade container services into Townsville.
Mr Smithwick said NSS has made significant investments in equipment and infrastructure at the Townsville Port and regional Queensland ports over recent years.
