CMA CGM subsidiary ANL has launched the Turtle Preservation Project in partnership with the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre (CTRC).
In a statement, ANL said it is concerned by the plight of oceans and marine life.
“ANL’s Turtle Preservation Project seeks to aid in the rehabilitation and release of sea turtles and help enhance public education on the environmental impacts of ocean plastics,” the company said.
CTRC is a completely voluntary, not-for profit organisation. It is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, research, and release of sick and injured marine turtles.
After an extended period of rehabilitation, they are released back to the ocean with a non-invasive satellite tracker attached to monitor their health profile and movements for important research.
The centre comprises an intensive care unit, turtle rehabilitation centre and an educational display for tourists.
ANL, working with CTRC will update a turtle rehabilitation tank and pump. This update will aid in the rehabilitation and care of rescued turtles.
ANL managing director Shane Walden said: “The ocean is where we work, and thus we have immense respect for it and the life it supports.
“The Turtle Preservation Project provides an opportunity to give back, raise awareness for a challenge in Oceania while supporting a worthy cause aligned with our values,” Mr Walden said.
“We look forward to seeing the preservation of sea turtles well into the future.”
CTRC co-founder Jennie Gilbert said: “We’re dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick and injured turtles. To do this important work we rely on contributions from many supporters and volunteers, we’re so glad to see ANL and the CMA CGM Group join our team.”
