THE Port of Brisbane saw significant increases in throughput volumes in November, according to the latest statistics from the Queensland port.
Over November, a total of 142,288 TEU crossed the wharves at Brisbane. This was an increase of 6% on the same month in 2020.
Of the total containerised throughput last November, 38,210 TEU (or 27%) were empty containers.
Over the month, 70,355 TEU were imported, an increase of 4% on the same month in 2020.
The biggest commodity category for containerised imports was “import other”, with 31,519 TEU. This was followed by household items (9309 TEU), building products (7437 TEU) and electrical equipment (6333 TEU).
Turning to exports, we see a total of 62,433 TEU left the port in November, an increase of 6% on November 2020.
Outside of empty containers, which accounted for 32,484 TEU of Brisbane’s total exports, the largest export commodity category was “export other” with 12,669 TEU. This was followed by agricultural seeds (4986 TEU), meat products (4745 TEU) and cotton (4393 TEU).
Turning to total trade through the Port of Brisbane (including containerised trade), we find the port handled 2.82 million tonnes of cargo in November 2021. This was an increase of 14% on the same month in 2020.
Total imports came to 1.64 million tonnes for the month. Major import commodities included crude oil and refined oil (358,204 tonnes and 331,996 tonnes, respectively),”retail group (206,604 tonnes) and cement (188,848 tonnes).
And the port handled total exports of 1.11 million tonnes over the month, an increase of 22% on the same month in 2020.
Major export commodities included coal (343,293 tonnes), “other” (276,680 tonnes) and agricultural seeds (196,444 tonnes).
