WALLENIUS Wilhelmsen announced it was resuming normal services and operations at Fremantle Port after the WA branch of the Maritime Union of Australia ended its protracted strike at Qube Ports and enter a reconciliation process.
While these negotiations are under way the shipping line announced it would resume normal services and operations in Fremantle, continuing its “longstanding relationship with Qube Ports, which provides stevedoring services for Wallenius Wilhelmsen across Australia”.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen Oceania SVP logistics services Kim Bouy said the company is hopeful the industrial dispute would be satisfactorily resolved.
“We are committed to minimising disruption to our customers’ supply chains while ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe and responsible manner,” he said.
“We believe that were industrial actions to continue, these would be disruptive to trade into the Port of Fremantle and the people and businesses in Australia who depend on the cargo that our vessels are carrying.”
WWallenius Wilhelmsen diverted several vessels scheduled to call Fremantle to Adelaide and Melbourne over recent weeks.
