THE Australian Rail Track Corporation is to reopen a single track section of the Moss Vale Unanderra line, near Dombarton, from December 22 to help return train services to and from Port Kembla.
According to the ARTC, despite a challenging worksite and conditions, they had worked “diligently to reopen this section of rail as soon and as safely as possible”.
“One track has been repaired and is being prepared to allow services to resume from Tuesday 22 December at approximately 6pm, under a temporary speed restriction,” an ARTC spokesperson said.
“The single section of track will operate bi-directionally until 4 January 2021. From early January, ARTC will continue to repair the other track impacted by the derailment.”
As was reported in Daily Cargo News, a grain train derailed on 15 December and the topography presented several access challenges for recovery and repair works.
“ARTC has been working with customers to identify potential alternative train routes to the port during the closure,” the spokesperson said.
“We would like to thank our customers for their patience over the last week – during what is an incredibly busy time of the year.
“We would also like to acknowledge our local teams for the work they have been able to do to return the line to operations to ensure that critical domestic and export supply chains are not disrupted, which is a great outcome for our customers.”
